Each night we lose the equivalent of a pint of water in perspiration, most of which is absorbed by the bed. A good mattress protector will cover the exposed surface of the mattress and prevent any fluid from seeping in. Sleeping without a waterproof layer means all of the moisture and fluid is being absorbed directly into the mattress, creating a breeding ground for bacteria and dust mites which thrive in humid environments. Unpleasant visible staining can occur from the first use of an unprotected mattress as perspiration contains minerals and trace elements that leave behind a brownish colouration as the moisture evaporates, resulting in mattress damage and staining.
Infestations of dust mites are the cause of many common allergic reactions. Asthma, eczema and rhinitis are all associated with an adverse reaction to dust mite droppings. Without a mattress protector these allergens would be free to breed unhindered within the mattress, where cleaning isn’t easily done. Having a mattress protector in place ensures that any build-up of allergens is prevented keeping your mattress healthier.
How can a Guardsman Mattress Protector help?
Every Guardsman mattress protector is designed to keep you cool and comfortable, whilst at the same time preventing fluids, bacteria and dust mites from penetrating the mattress. The protector is anti-allergy, contains a 100% waterproof membrane, and a breathable layer. The breathable layer ensures that moisture and heat are distributed away from the body and absorbed by the protector; creating a pleasant sleeping environment and providing exceptional comfort. The protector is guaranteed for 10 years.
What sizes are available?
Single (90cm x 190cm)
Double (135cm x 190cm)
King (150cm x 200cm)
Super King (180cm x 200cm)
Each protector has a deep skirt that fits in the same way as a fitted sheet to a depth of 34cm. The protector is designed to stay smooth and doesn’t bunch underneath you while you sleep. We also offer pillow protectors available in packs of two that fit most standard sized pillows and have the same benefits of a mattress protector.
Are they easy to care for?
Yes, we recommend regularly machine washing up to a maximum of 60oC. By washing at this temperature it will ensure any dust mites and allergens accumulated on the surface of the mattress protector are removed. For drying, we recommend either to tumble dry on the lowest setting with additional bed linens or line dry. As the waterproof membrane is built into the protector you can wash this as frequently as you like with no risk of removing its protective benefits.
